Metal or other inserts
Adding metal to a barn door can be a great way to enhance any door and give it a rustic, industrial look or a more modern contemporary look if desired. Sheet metal can be a great addition to your room decor in many situations, depending on the style you’re aiming for.
For a industrial or Rustic Style – Hot rolled Sheet metal can be perfect for achieving this look and adding to your room decor. Hot-rolled steel has a characteristic appearance that is different from other types of steel. It has a slightly scaly surface and the color of hot rolled steel can vary depending on the steel’s composition, but it typically has a dark gray or black color with some deep blueish tones. The surface may also have some discoloration or heat marks from the rolling process which adds to the industrial look. Overall, hot-rolled steel has a distinctive appearance that sets it apart from other types of steel. Alternatively,, corrugated metal can make a great door accent, adding texture and a unique industrial feel to a room. When using corrugated metal as a decor accent, it’s important to balance it with other textures and materials in the room. For example, pairing it with wood or natural fibers can help soften the industrial feel and create a balanced look.
For a Modern or Contemporary Styles look might use cold rolled. It can be used to create a sleek, metallic look in the room. Cold-rolled steel has a different appearance compared to hot-rolled steel. It has a smoother and more uniform surface, with a matte finish that is sometimes described as having a “silky” or “satin-like” texture. Overall, the appearance of cold rolled steel is smooth and uniform, with a matte finish that gives it a distinctive and attractive look.
If metal is not the look you are after, we can add other materials and items to your door. We can do letters (with wood). For a Vanderbilt sorority, we did a Kappa Delta door by adding a KD to the door. The K/D were made from the same wood and not stained but rather we saved some well-weathered wood specifically to build this door. It is an all-natural door and the KD stands out great.
For a client, with a surname starting with M we added this to their double doors. So when the doors come together it forms the “M”. Again this door is natural as is the “M” so it is a little more subtle but still apparent
Lastly, we are adding an Oriental panel to a door currently in the build process. The client’s home has a very Oriental look, also known as Asian style, feel to their decor. This style is characterized by its simplicity, elegance, and balance, and incorporates elements such as natural materials, bold colors, and clean lines. The door we are building around this insert will continue this look and feel..
